PUNJAB
AVYAAN POV
Treyaksh was giggling at his phone.
Not smiling. He was actually giggling . I paused mid-scroll and slowly lifted my eyes toward him, narrowing them as I observed his expression carefully.
“…Haaawww,” I whispered under my breath, leaning back slightly , “Iski bandi ban gayi (he got a girlfriendd) … and this idiot did not even tell me.”
The betrayal felt personal.
Very personal.
After everything we had been through together, this was how he chose to behave?
I turned my head slowly toward Aarvik, expecting at least some reaction from him, but that useless human being was just sitting there, peacefully scrolling on his phone as if nothing suspicious was happening in front of us.
“Excuse me?” I muttered under my breath, my eyebrows shooting up in disbelief . itii shanti kaisaeee hai yae room mai jab mai yaha jinda huu . “How is it so peaceful here when I am literally present in this room?”
Something was clearly wrong.
And whenever something felt wrong, it automatically became my responsibility to fix it.
“Fine,” I whispered, unlocking my phone, “let me handle this.”
I opened Aarvik’s chat and quickly typed—
“Hey, listen.”
“Do not react.”
I glanced up for a second. He was looking at me .
I typed again—
“Treyu has a girlfriend.”
Then I looked at him.
His reaction was immediate.
His eyes widened so much YAAE SUAR KAE BACHAE KI TO ANKHAIN FADDH FADDH KAR KYA DEKH RHA “Why are you staring like that?” I muttered internally, MT GHUR AESAE SUARRR RANGAE HATHON PAKADNA HAI “we have to catch his red - handed , control “ He froze for a second, then quickly looked down at his phone again, trying very hard to act normal.
He was failing.
Badly.
I immediately typed again—
“ACT NORMAL, you idiot.”
His shoulders stiffened slightly, and he nodded almost invisibly.
Good.
At least he was trying.
I typed again—
“I will count to three.”
“Then i grab his phone and you will grab him .”
He paused, looked at me properly this time, and then slowly nodded.
That was enough.
We both adjusted slightly in our positions, pretending to be normal while very obviously not being normal, stealing small glances at Treyaksh, who was still completely focused on his phone, smiling softly as he typed.
I raised my fingers slightly, where only Aarvik could see them.
“One…”
My heartbeat picked up slightly.
“Two…”
Aarvik leaned forward just a little.
“Three—”
“AAEEE—AEAEAEAEAEAEAE!”
We both shouted at the top of our lungs.
Treyaksh jumped in shock. “What the—?!”
Before he could react properly, Aarvik lunged forward and grabbed him, pushing him back onto the bed behind.
“I got him!” Aarvik shouted.
“Have you both lost your minds?!” Treyaksh yelled, struggling immediately, his voice filled with shock and anger. “What are you doing? Leave me!”
“Hold him!” I shouted, already moving forward.
“I am trying!” Aarvik replied, barely managing to keep him in place as both of them struggled.
And in that moment—
I grabbed the phone.
Victory.
I stepped back quickly, holding it up with a grin. “Now let us see who our BHABHI JAAN is…”
Behind me, Aarvik suddenly started fake crying dramatically.
“The enemy would never do what my own brother has done to me,” he said loudly, pretending to sob. “I trusted you, Treyaksh… and this is how you repay me…”
“Stop this nonsense!” Treyaksh shouted, trying to get up, his voice now a mix of frustration and disbelief. “Give my phone back, Avyaan! Are you both crazy?!”
But I had already opened the chat.
I was smiling.
Scrolling.
Ready to expose everything.
And then—
I froze.
“…A group chat?”
My smile disappeared.
“…What?”
I scrolled again, just to be sure.
Group chat.
“Wait… what?”
Aarvik stopped his fake crying immediately. “What happened?”
I slowly turned the phone toward him.
“This… is a group chat,” I said, my voice dropping in disbelief.
There was a pause.
A long one.
“…What?” Aarvik leaned closer.
“A group chat,” I repeated. “This idiot was smiling at a group chat.”
AUTHOR’S POV
And then—
“TUM DONO KYA APNA DIMAG BECH DIYAE HO ( you guys have sell your brain or what) ?” Treyaksh’s voice exploded across the room, he sat up abruptly, hair messy , still trying to process the absolute nonsense that had just attacked him out of nowhere. “Which girlfriend? Whose girlfriend? What are you both even saying? One day you will actually get beaten up for this stupidity, I swear.”
Aarvik immediately loosened his grip, shifting back a little, but not before throwing Avyaan in a mess .
“It was all him,” Aarvik said , pointing at Avyaan . “He said you have a girlfriend and didn’t tell us.”
Treyaksh slowly turned his head toward Avyaan.
And before Avyaan could even prepare a defense—
THUD.
A pillow flew straight at his face.
“WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!” Avyaan yelped, grabbing the pillow dramatically , while Treyaksh lunged forward and snatched his phone back .
“You both are impossible,” Treyaksh muttered, unlocking his phone .
Avyaan, however, was not ready to admit defeat.
He sat there for a second, stunned… and then suddenly straightened his back .
“No,” he said seriously, raising a finger. “Even if you were just added to a random group chat… you should have told us.”
Both Treyaksh and Aarvik turned to him.
“What?” Treyaksh asked slowly.
Avyaan stood up on the bed now, completely committed to his nonsense .
“Because we are best friends,” he declared dramatically . “And in matters like this, girls have better friendships than us, okay? At least they tell each other everything. Every small detail. And us?” he shook his head in disappointment. “Nothing. I wish i was a Girl ”
Aarvik leaned toward Treyaksh slightly and muttered under his breath, “This idiot will say anything to defend himself, won’t he?”
Treyaksh sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. “One day,I will actually end up in a mental hospital because of Avyaan. I am not even joking anymore.”
“Same pinch,” Aarvik replied instantly, nodding with full agreement.
Avyaan gasped like he had just been betrayed by the entire world.
“OH WOW,” he shouted, throwing another pillow at both of them with unnecessary aggression. “Now I am the problem? I HAVE A POINT! TREYAKSH IS A LIAR ! HE HID THINGS FROM US!”
Treyaksh looked genuinely confused now. “Where did the ‘liar’ part even come from?!”
Aarvik, trying to bring some logic back into the room, looked at Treyaksh and said , “Just tell us properly. What group is it? And how did you get added?”
Treyaksh exhaled, finally giving in. “It’s just an online group, yaar. Nothing serious. Someone randomly added me. Do you want to be added too?”
“Yeah, add me,” Aarvik replied immediately .
And that—
That was the breaking point.
Avyaan froze.
He turned his head toward them .
“You are adding him…” he said softly.
Silence.
“And not me?”
Neither of them spoke.
“YOU ARE LEAVING ME OUT?” Avyaan shouted .
“I am not talking to either of you,” he declared dramatically, grabbing a pillow and a blanket .
He walked toward the corner of the room dropped the pillow on the floor, and was about to sit on it—
Then suddenly paused.
He looked at the pillow.
Then at the floor.
Then back at the pillow.
“No,” he murmured seriously, shaking his head. “You are not supposed to sit on a pillow. It brings bad luck… and debt MUMMAA SAID .”
He quickly moved the pillow aside with respect , and instead lay down directly on the floor, covering himself completely with the blanket like a sulking child .
Treyaksh slowly turned his head toward Aarvik.
“Bhai…” he said quietly , “he is eighteen, right? We are not mistaken? He is not one year old?”
Aarvik stared at Avyaan’s blanket-covered figure, then replied , “Age-wise, yes, he is eighteen… but behavior-wise, I think even a one-year-old would be more mature.”
From under the blanket, there was a slight movement — a shift,
Treyaksh and Aarvik noticed it at the exact same moment.
They slowly turned toward each other.
And then, in perfect sync—
“Let’s check on our illegally adopted child.”
A beat.
“SYNCCCCC,” they whispered together, grinning like absolute idiots.
Without wasting another second, both of them got up and walked toward the blanket lump in the corner.
Treyaksh gently poked the blanket.
“Avyaan…” he said in an overly soft, sugary tone , “come on, don’t be upset anymore… forgive us, baby… your mommy aarvik and daddy love you so much…”
Aarvik immediately turned his head toward Treyaksh with a shocked expression.
“Excuse me?” he said, offended. “What do you mean your mommy aarvik ? Who decided that? First of all—” , “I am the father here. And you—” he pointed at Treyaksh, “you are clearly the mother.”
Before Treyaksh could even process that—
THAP.
He smacked Aarvik’s head lightly.
“Have you lost your mind?” Treyaksh snapped. “I am the father. You are the mother. Final.”
Aarvik gasped “Oh really?” he said, narrowing his eyes. “Funny, because in my opinion, I am the father of both of you.”
“IT WAS!”
Their voices kept rising, overlapping, turning louder and louder as they argued over the most useless topic with full seriousness—
And in the middle of all this—
The blanket moved again.
Suddenly, Avyaan sat up.
Hair messy. Eyes slightly annoyed. Blanket slipping off his shoulders.
“BHAI KAE LAU —” he shouted, completely done with their nonsense, “JUST SHUT UP, BOTH OF YOU!”
The room fell silent instantly.
Treyaksh and Aarvik froze mid-argument, both turning their heads toward him . Avyaan looked at them.
One by one.
Slowly.
Then pointed at himself.
“First of all,” he said firmly, “I am not your child.”
Silence.
“And second of all—” he narrowed his eyes, voice dropping with dangerous confidence, “I am the father here.”
For a second—
Neither of them reacted.
They just stared at him.
Processing.
And then—
Treyaksh slowly turned toward Aarvik.
Aarvik slowly turned toward Treyaksh.
No words.
Just understanding.
And the next second—
“DISHUM!”
“BANG!”
“AAEEE—”
They both launched at Avyaan together
“YOU ARE THE FATHER?!” Treyaksh shouted, trying to pin him down.
“OVER MY DEAD BODY!” Aarvik added, grabbing a pillow and hitting him repeatedly.
Avyaan, struggling and laughing at the same time, tried to push them away. “MOVE— BOTH OF YOU— I AM FATHER OF YOU BOTH !”
The room filled with noise again—
Pillows flying, hands pushing, laughter echoing .
